Banty Holler | New Single -Clementine
Het onafhankelijke muziekplatform Mpodia komt op vrijdag 21 mei 2021 om 17:00 uur met een video première van de nieuwe singel van het Haagse Duo Banty Holler “Clementine”. De single is sinds kort ook via Spotify te beluisteren maar de video geeft je een ultieme inkijk in het huidige plattelands gevoel waar niets een sleur hoeft te zijn, zolang je maar een goed zelfbeeld hebt.

Banty Holler soms een akoestisch trio of solo-act maar momenteel een duo, bestaande uit Neile H. Coe III (gitaren en zang) en Gijsbert Diteweg op Dobro en lap-steel. Gijsbert Diteweg is een door wol geverfde muzikant, want aan zijn muzikale CV komt geen eind. Hij studeerde aan de Universiteit Leiden (psychologie), speelde in verschillende bandjes en geeft gitaarles. Grondlegger van Banty Holler is Neile H. Coe III. Hij komt van oorsprong uit Chicago en luisterde als jonge puber naar muziek van Led Zeppelin en AC/DC. Pas op latere leeftijd kwam hij in aanraking met muziek van Hank Williams, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry etc.
Als jonge tiener belande hij, in de jaren negentig, in Nederlands meest dichtbevolkte stad Den Haag. “Lots of bars and coffeeshops so… adios basketball, hello Skunk and Hertog Jan at Café Cremers!” antwoord hij op de vraag hoe hij dit heeft ondervonden. Het duo Banty Holler maakt al een tijdje roots muziek waarin Alt Country, American folk, rock, blues, en rockabilly hand in hand gaan. Half A Dozen (2016), Nothing Machine (2017), Tradition (2018) en Wired For Sound (2019) gingen vooraf aan hun nieuwe plaat The Journeyman Songs. “Journeyman Songs is for all the weekend warriors and the bar bands and the old country and blues singers bouncing around, a little worn down and world-weary but playing their hearts out nonetheless.” Dit zijn dan ook de ankers die Banty Holler’s prachtige nieuwe plaat uniek positioneren in een klein genre met een gestaag groeiende aanhang.
Neile H. Coe III schreef op een na “Color of the Blues (George Jones)” alle liedjes zelf. “George Jones is just the greatest. I love his singing, such a great combination of technique, tone and soul! George Jones is maybe the greatest country singer and I was happy I could find my own way of doing one of his famous tunes” zegt Neile daarover.
Gewoon een paar mannen die van muziek maken houden? Of toch niet? Nee dit zijn mannen met een glasheldere muzikale visie en missie “We think we are too long-in-the-tooth to have ambitions of major success in the entertainment business. Being a great little bar band that can move people on any particular musical note is what we strive to do. And continuing to learn and grow as musicians, technically and spiritually, that’s what’s it’s about for us.” O ja, met die langgekoesterde doorbraak komt het vast en zeker goed.
